Interview Reflection

  1. What is your rhetorical situation and how did it affect your choices as a writer? Give at least one example of how each of the four elements affected a choice you made when constructing your blog. Make sure to quote yourself at least once.
  2. My rhetorical situation was to do a podcast, as I was thinking that I wanted my audience to be young Independent filmmakers, who were interested in listening to people in their fields and their opinion on film as well as the connections that they made in order to be successful. This is why I decided to include many videos and images that were visually pleasing to captivate the young audiences attention. The podcast itself is a easier way to obtain information as a younger audience would rather listen to something than read it. It is not only more captivating but they get a sense of having a conversation rather than being lectured. Due to this I used language that would reflect that, dialect that signaled to my audience that I was speaking to them, engaging in a conversation rather than telling them what to do. I met the expectations of my genre (podcast/blog) by trying to take what is most captivating about both of them and mixing them to make the most entertaining post I could have done, I used the images, hyperlinks and amusement of a blog, and I mixed it with the light heaviness, informal and entertaining sound of a podcast, with phrases such as: “Hey guys what’s up? Welcome to knowing better, I’m your host Mateo Martinez”, Im able to meet what is expected from a podcast, a conversation.
  3. What research did you do to assist you with this project? Did you do pre-interview research? If so, talk about how you did that, what you learned, how it affected the interview. Or did you do post-interview research? Talk about that, and how any research may have influenced or been integrated into your blog.
  4. I pre researched Emilio, by looking him up on social media and by finding articles and feed on him by magazines in Colombia. This was useful as to identify his background and what could differentiate him from other filmmakers and influencers, this way during my interview I could target questions, such as what influence has his mother had in his professional career.  I also did some post interview research to find out more about the festival he mentioned, Indiebo, which Is a Colombian film festival which I was familiar with however never really thought of the possibilities to meet directors and other filmmakers. (this research was done mainly for me, as indiebo wasn't really relevant to my audience, which is why I decided not to include that in my conclusion.)
  5. Describe your process of introducing, and contextualizing, your interview. What information did you include to help the reader make sense of your Q and A? Why did you choose these specific details or this particular background information? Is there anything you left out?  Why?
  6. I began the post by introducing my blog, I began with my podcast intro, to explain what it was about, and then I followed to explain the main goal of that days podcast, I presented who my interviewee was and why I was interviewing him. I chose to explain details that would give him more authority, such as the fact that he works in advertising and in social media, this way my reason to interview Emilio would be clear. I hooked the reader with my tone of voice and excitement, I also used some of Emilios images as it makes him look like a public figure that my audience would be interested in viewing. I included the fact that his mother was a well known actress as to contextualize towards one of the potential reasons for his success.
  7. How did you choose the questions and answers that you included? What did you leave out? Why? Did you have to edit your questions and answers? If so, how did you decided what to add or take out? Overall, what were you hoping to accomplish with the specific questions and answers you included?
  8. I had a list of questions that I wanted to ask Emilio, however, I let the conversation flow and ask questions that would build on top of eachother. My questions were more focused around what it takes to be successful in this industry. I had to edit out the last question as it didn't really make sense in the context of what I was trying to talk about, I excluded the question of what type of writing he did for his field.
  9. Describe the interview itself, how did it go? How did you do it (face to face, email, telephone), how did you take notes? Was it easy, difficult or challenging to get information from the person or keep the person on task? Overall, did you think it went as you expected, why or why not?
  10. The interview was very interesting, I called him through facetime as it was the closest I was going to have to a face to face interview. It went very well as the conversation flowed seamlessly and Emilio gave me very long, detailed and precise answers that were very helpful to my audience and to myself as well. I learned a lot during this process. I thought the interview was going to be very awkward, however he was very enthusiastic.
  11. What was your process of applying the Method to your Q and A? And how did you integrate that into your conclusion (for your final reflection, you will want to take me step by step through your process, including what words repeated into patterns or what words you organized into strands, how many times the words repeated, etc [see chapter on The Method on BB if you’re not sure what I mean], and the results of your freewrite and how you interpreted those patterns, strands etc., and what claim you made as a result, and how you integrated that into your conclusion). How did you use the conclusion to elevate this interview, make bigger meaning from it, and show your audience not only how it’s relevant but how it’s meaningful and significant.
  12. My process of applying the method began when I noticed emilio used a certain patterns in order to portray a certain message such as: customers/bosses, visual, proposals, points of view. And then he began to use patterns such as networking, and connections which made me realize that he was talking about the importance of branding and to open yourself up to situations where you may be uncomfortable however it is very important as you are making connections that could help expose your career and give you new opportunities. I wanted to express how imperative it was to focus on getting your name out there rather than just making good content. As on a broad scale, there may be very good and very talented filmmakers that no one ever got to see due to their lack of business skills.
  13. How did you make choices in regards to integrating media? These should have been rhetorical choices, so how were these choices (each photo, each video, each hyperlink) rhetorical? What purpose were they are serving?
  14. Im making choices to include images and videos of Emilio, and of the topic we were discussing, so the audience can observe and build a mental image of this very young man speaking about his career. I included hyperlinks and videos of Indiebo as well as an image of his mother to contextualize the viewer and help them build a better understanding of what we are discussing. I included a transcript of the podcast in order to give my audience a chance of going through what he said without having to listen to the whole segment again. I might include a video on how to explore connections to get your name out.
